Welcome To Our Neck Of The Woods!
Some of the features of Trinity County include approx. 3200 square miles of alpine grandeur, we don't have any stop lights in the whole county, 75% of the land is National Forest, only about 13,000 people reside in the county and we have a wealth of local history. Our water features include Trinity Lake, Ruth Lake, Lewiston Lake, The Trinity River, and many streams. If you enjoy wilderness areas for hiking, camping or hunting you can visit the Yolla Bolly Wilderness, Chanchelulla Wilderness, Trinity Alps Wilderness and so many other gorgeous areas. Our climate in the county is very inviting. We get to enjoy four distinct seasons. In the Winter we get some snow in the valley and of course the surrounding mountains are beautifully dressed in white. Spring time is an especially beautiful time with wildflowers in abundance and the valleys are green! Summer time takes us to the lakes and rivers! The temperatures during the day are in the upper 90's, but when the sun sets behind the mountains we get wonderful cool evenings. Autumn puts on a magnifacent show with the many colors that abound. With the mixture of trees we get a diverse array of autumn color!
Hayfork Valley looks beautiful when you drive down into it, where you will find that you are completely surrounded by beautiful mountains in every direction. Weaverville sits at the base of the Trinity Alps, where people enjoy the beautiful views and mountain lakes. Also, Trinity Lake is only 15 minutes away! We believe that these are only a few reasons why people are drawn to Trinity County. It doesn't get much better than this; trees everywhere, cool streams, and don't forget the crisp, fresh mountain air!
Weaverville is the largest town in Trinity County, with a population total around 3500. It is also the county seat, where you will find the court house and other county entities. The town has a lot of historic charm, with its downtown area that hasn't changed much over the last 100 years.
Some of the events that take place in Weaverville are the monthly "Art Cruises", the annual Chinese New Year celebration, the annual Trinity County Relay for Life, the Salmon Festival, a variety of performing art shows, and many local fundraisers. You can also catch a comedy night or live band at the Trinideli or Mama Llama's. While in Weaverville don't forget to check out the Joss House, Jake Jackson Museum, or the old Stamp Mill.
Hayfork is the second largest town in Trinity County. It has a population of about 2000 and an elevation of about 2300 feet. It has both an elementary school and high school. There are also many clubs including the Rotary Club, Lions Club, Quilters Guild and many others.
Hayfork Valley is known for being the largest valley in Trinity County (the reason we are "Big Valley Properties"!). According to local history, Hayfork got its name from Hayfork Creek, which runs through the center of the valley. The original name of the creek was "The Hay Fork", of the South Fork of the Trinity River. The creek got its name from the early settlers that were amazed at all the natural grass that grew here in the valley.
In August you can enjoy the Trinity County Fair that is held in Hayfork. An event called "Summer in the Park" is now happening the 2nd Saturday of every month throughout the summer at the Hayfork Park. It features local crafts, food, and music. Another summer event is the Hayfork-n-You Bike Rally, with hundreds of motorcycles from all over the country. There are events happening every month to keep the townspeople and their guests having fun and involved with the community! West of Hayfork is South Fork Mountain, which is the longest unbroken mountain range in America. Spring and summer are great times to get around the county and take in the fresh air along with the gorgeous views!
Some of the smaller Trinity County communities include Lewiston, Mad River, Ruth, Junction City, Covington Mill, Wildwood, Trinity Center, Douglas City, Zenia, Coffee Creek, Kettenpom, Salyer, Del Loma, Hawkins Bar, Big Flat, & Helena among others. These communities offer events like the Lewiston Peddler's Faire, Ruth Lake Summer Fetsival, Ruth Rodeo and the Trinity Tribal Stomp among others.
